Kanani Akina
Kaua’i, HI – 2011Kanani Akina is a warm, welcoming girl who lives on Kaua’i, the oldest of the Hawaiian islands. She knows her home island inside and out and loves nothing more than sharing the aloha spirit with everyone she meets. Kanani has a gift for photography, helps her parents run their shave ice shop, and is passionate about protecting Hawaiian wildlife, especially the endangered Hawaiian monk seal. An enthusiastic swimmer—her parents call her a mermaid—she isn’t much of a fan of surfing. Her lively menagerie includes a rooster named Jinx, a dog named Barksee, and a goat named Mochi.
