Lindsey Bergman, the very first Girl of the Year, is a funny, good-hearted girl who only ever wants to help out and fix things. Whether she’s trying to stop the Pet Parade, playing matchmaker for two of her teachers, cheering up her uncle, or pitching in with her older brother Ethan’s bar mitzvah, Lindsey always has a new project on the go. Unfortunately, her big-hearted schemes have a way of landing her in trouble, and she isn’t especially well-liked at school. She loves riding her scooter, plays the trumpet in the school band, and has a dog named Mr. Tiny and a friend named April, whom she finds a little strange. Over the course of her story, Lindsey learns that there’s more than one way to make a difference.

As the first Jewish American Girl character, Lindsey held that distinction until the arrival of Rebecca Rubin.
