Marisol Luna is a lively, resourceful girl and an aspiring dancer, growing up in the vibrant, largely Latino neighborhood of Pilsen in Chicago. When her family moves out to the suburb of Des Plaines, she’s crushed—not only is she leaving the only home she’s ever known, but her new neighborhood doesn’t have a dance studio nearby. A dedicated student of Mexican ballet folklórico who has recently taken up ballet, Marisol is competitive, hardworking, and rarely without a stash of candy. Over the course of her story, she works to find a place to keep dancing and to make her new neighborhood feel like home. She has a cat named Rascal, whom she rescued off the street.
