Caroline Abbott
Sackets Harbor, NY – 1812Caroline Abbott is an adventurous, independent girl living on the shores of Lake Ontario during the War of 1812. An only child, she has spent her whole life in the town she loves, where her family runs a busy shipyard. She adores being outdoors—sailing, fishing, and ice skating—and dreams of one day becoming captain of her own ship. Brave and quick to put her courage to the test, Caroline is something of a tomboy and a bit of a hero, though her boldness sometimes tips into rash, foolish decisions. She’s stubborn, sensitive, and easily offended, and she struggles with change and with making up her own mind, gradually learning to lean on both her heart and her head. When she isn’t out on the water, she keeps her hands busy with embroidery and sewing, especially when she’s worried. Fiercely proud of her father, Caroline will go to great lengths to please him, all while proving herself daring and self-reliant.
