Prints in the Sand: My Journey with Nanea
Honolulu, HI – 1942I tried papaya for the first time this morning, and that went well. So I think it could be fun to try hula, too. Nanea is so excited she almost knocks her eggs onto the floor. She asks what kind of story we should tell with our hula.
For a second, my thoughts go completely empty. Then I remember what Tutu said last night. Tutu explained that some hula tells stories from long ago, while others come straight from a dancer’s own heart. I want Tutu to know I was listening and remember. But what kind of story do I want to tell?
It was funny watching Nanea and Mary Lou act out the legend of Pele. But it could also be fun inventing a brand-new routine alongside Nanea.
What will you do?
