Overall Rating
6/10

I enjoyed beginning reading these books. They show friendship, arguing, and different personalities all showing patience and coming together to be good friends. Overall, I enjoyed the stories, too. However, maybe it’s just because I read 13 of these books, but they started to get really old at the end. There’s a few stories where the entire book is just living in a made-up world, and the characters pretend they’re somewhere else or other creatures (mermaids, princesses, fairies, etc) entirely. I wish all of the books stayed rooted in the real world, to show girls what fun they can have outside of their own brains (and I say this as a person who loved to play make-believe games as a kid). All-in-all, I did like these books enough, especially for young children, and the dolls are cute. I have heard some rumors about the dolls changing color over time or the vinyl otherwise not holding up, but I can’t really comment any more than that because I’ve never even held one of these dolls. In truth, I gave the WellieWishers line a 7/10, but really for the main reason of I just got so tired of the characters in the books after reading 13 of the stories. I think young children really like this line, and I am an adult reading books meant for five-year-olds.

Official Fandom Page: WellieWishers

The WellieWishers are a line of dolls that are made with all-vinyl. It was released in 2016, and is aimed to elementary-aged children four and up. The line is named after wellies, a term for the Wellington boots that was popularized in the United Kingdom. Notice how all of the dolls come in a nice pair of Wellington boots.

The dolls are all 14.5" tall, so they’re smaller than the 18" dolls. The dolls have fixed plastic eyes that do not move at all.

All of the books introduce the WellieWishers the same way:

The WellieWishers are a group of fun-loving girls who each have the same big, bright wish: to be a good friend. They love to play in a large and leafy backyard garden cared for by Willa’s Aunt Miranda.

When the WellieWishers step into their colorful garden boots, also known as wellingtons or wellies, they are ready for anything—stomping in mud puddles, putting on a show, and helping friendships grow. Like you, they’re learning that being kind, creative, and caring isn’t always easy, but it’s the best way to make friendships bloom.
