Curtsies, Crowns, and Bowing-Up-and-Down
One bright, brisk, blue-sky day, Camille has a brilliant idea. They can pretend they’re going to a school for fairy princesses and princes. Emerson agrees that sounds fun. Camille can be the teacher. To the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” she sings:
Curtsies, bows, and magic, too!
How to make a wish come true!
Use a wand and cast a spell,
I’ll teach you how to do these well.
Come to school and learn to be
Ready to be royalty.
Then, the WellieWishers hold hands, and chant:
Close your eyes, stand in a row,
All hold hands, and off we go!
Princess Camille welcomes everybody to the Royal Academy. The students all shout “Hooray!” and clap. Princess Camille explains the first lesson will be Curtsies, Crowns, and Bowing-Up-and-Down. She explains you need to keep your chin up so the crowns don’t fall off your head.
Princess Emerson enjoys curtsying. She practices a few times, but she cannot keep her crown straight! She sings:
Curtsies are so fun to do!
But my crown needs magic glue!
And then she has a brainstorm. She tucks her pigtails insdie her crown! She does another curtsy, and her crown stays perfectly on her head. Princess Camille applauds politely. Everybody wears their crown in a goofy way. Together, they all sing:
Curtsies are so fun to do!
We can keep our crowns on, too.
When they’ve all had enough laughs, Princess Camille gathers them together again. The next lesson is called Wands and Wishes!
Wands and Wishes
The students sit down, and Princess Camille hands out tote bags. Inside each one there’s a wand pen and a notebook. Princess Willa says she can’t wait to use it. She spins on one toe so that the wand pen sparkles and glitters. Princess Camille points to the whiteboard and tells the princesses and prince to copy each spell into their notebooks.
To make wishes come true:
1. Wave wand three times.
2. Say “Abracadabra! Cock-a-Doodle-Doo! Make this magic wish come true."
To undo a frog curse:
1. Wave wand twice.
2. Say, “You’re a prince!"
Princess Willa writes so fast her wand pen is a blur. She waves her wand and reads aloud what she has written in her notebook, but she reads the words wrong! She wrote so fast her words became intelligible scribbles. She accidentally gives a cow a big blue mustache.
Princess Willa moves on and tries the next spell, but she gets this one wrong, too. She turns the frog into a purse, and then a prune, and then a pirate. She gasps, and sings:
Sometimes i just have to guess
‘Cause my words are such a mess!
She goes to write her spells over again more slowly. When she’s done, she reads her spell out loud. At last, she manages to turn the frog into a prince. The frog smiles in agreement, and Princess Willa sings:
When I did not rush to write,
My frog spell came out just right!
Enchanting Animals
Princess Camille introduces the next class, called Enchanting Animals. She introduces Princess Pegeen Piglet. The students bow and curtsy. Princess Camille explains that Princess Pegeen is very smart, so if they talk to her, she’ll respond in Oinkish. The princesses and prince take turns asking Princess Pegeen questions, and she always answers back.
Then, Princess Camille leads them outside for their riding lesson with Susie Unicorn. But the students “Hooray” so loudly that Susie Unicorn gets scared and skitters away. Princess Ashlyn calls for her to come back, but she doesn’t listen. So, Princess Camille switches directions and brings them back to the castle. All except Prince Bryant, who softly says that he’s shy sometimes, too. He holds out a daisy, and tells Susie Unicorn a joke:
Knock, knock.
Who’s there?
Wanda.
Wanda who?
Wanda eat a daisy?
Then, Susie Unicorn begins to walk towards Prince Bryant. She tickles his hand with her nose and eats the daisy right out of his hand.
By the time the others come back to find him, Prince Bryant is riding Susie Unicorn! Princess Camille asks him if he used magic. He says no, he just tried to make friends with her by telling her jokes! Princess Camille laughs and sings:
Unicorns may run and hide;
Tell them jokes to get a ride!
Crossing Moats and Climbing Towers
Princess Camille calls everybody over again, and explains the next lesson. Princess Ashlyn is afraid of heights, but Princess Camille says this exercise is about using your brains and magic to get Princess Pegeen and herself down. She sings:
Use your very best brain power.
Cross the moat and climb the tower.
Princess Willa suggests pretending they’re fish and swimming across. Princess Kendall says maybe they can jump on the stones across. She takes a big leap and falls straight into the water. She sits up in the moat and laughs. Apparently that wasn’t a very royal thing to do. But, since she’s already wet, she wades across the moat, scrambles up the bank, and crawls through the ivy.
Princess Kendall opens the door and lowers the drawbridge. All the students thank her as they cross the moat dryly. She smiles and sings:
Next time that I cross a moat,
I sure hope I have a boat!
Princess Kendall points up to the vines on the tower. Maybe somebody can climb up them and open the window. Princess Ashlyn offers to, but Princess Willa reminds her that she’s afraid of heights. Princess Ashlyn admits this is true, but she feels she has to be brave if she’s to be royal.
Princess Ashlyn takes a deep breath, tucks her wand in her sash, and begins climbing. Slowly, she made her way all the way to the top of the tower. She lifts the latch of the window, and it swings open. Then, she pulls her wand out and says “Abracadabra! Cock-a-Doodle-Doo! Make this magic wish come true. I wish we were birds!”
Just then, the princess birds fly down from the tower. Princess Pegeen did, too. Princess Emerson recites the spell to turn them back into princesses. Princess Camille thanks them for freeing them from the tower. And, she has one last surprise for them.
Prizes and Surprises
The surprise is a royal party! Everybody cheers and whoops and sings. They eat delicious cookies, drink lovely tea, and have a marvelous time. Then, Princess Camille announces it’s time for prizes. She has five neatly wrapped boxes ready to give out.
For Princess Emerson, who used her head and imagination to solve the tippy, slippy crown, she wins the Royal Creativity Award.
For Princess Willa, who showed patience and determination when she rewrote her spells, she gets the Royal Award for Not Giving Up.
Prince Bryant made friends with Susie Unicron by telling her jokes, so he gets the Royal Award for Funniest Friend.
Princess Kendall dove into the challenge of getting across the moat, so she gets the Royal Kindness Award.
And Princess Ashlyn conquered her fear of heights by climbing the tower, even though she was scared. So, she gets the Royal Award for Bravery.
And then, the students all say they have a surprise for Princess Camille, too. The Royal Award for the Best Teacher Ever. And all the students laugh and hug, and sing:
Curtsies, bows, and magic, too!
How to make a wish come true!
Use a wand and cast a spell,
You taught us to do these well.
Thanks to you we learned to be
Ready to be royalty.
Then, Princess Camille announces to everyone to unwrap their box prizes. Inside, there are mirrors in each of them. And on the back, they each say “You are magical.”
