Wands and Wishes

The students sit down, and Princess Camille hands out tote bags. Inside each one there’s a wand pen and a notebook. Princess Willa says she can’t wait to use it. She spins on one toe so that the wand pen sparkles and glitters. Princess Camille points to the whiteboard and tells the princesses and prince to copy each spell into their notebooks.

To make wishes come true:

  1. Wave wand three times.
  2. Say “Abracadabra! Cock-a-Doodle-Doo! Make this magic wish come true.”

To undo a frog curse:

  1. Wave wand twice.
  2. Say, “You’re a prince!”

Princess Willa writes so fast her wand pen is a blur. She waves her wand and reads aloud what she has written in her notebook, but she reads the words wrong! She wrote so fast her words became intelligible scribbles. She accidentally gives a cow a big blue mustache.

Princess Willa moves on and tries the next spell, but she gets this one wrong, too. She turns the frog into a purse, and then a prune, and then a pirate. She gasps, and sings:

Sometimes I just have to guess
‘Cause my words are such a mess!

She goes to write her spells over again more slowly. When she’s done, she reads her spell out loud. At last, she manages to turn the frog into a prince. The frog smiles in agreement, and Princess Willa sings:

When I did not rush to write,
My frog spell came out just right!
