I grin at Bea. I tell her that I want to stay. We decided to raise Moon Shadow together this summer, and I can’t wait to begin. I want to see him grow every day.

Bea hugs me and says she’s so glad. She asks if Gem will be disappointed in my decision. I think about Molly and her dad and how they both wanted each other to be happy. I know Gem and I feel that way about one another, too. I tell Bea that Gem loves me. She’ll understand. I cross my fingers on both hands. And I’m going to go home to find out. Right now.

Bea wishes me luck and I head home. As I near our cabin, I see Gem working on her laptop at the picnic table. She greets me and says that she’s glad I’ve come. She asks me for help because her laptop isn’t cooperating. As I sit down and fiddle with her laptop, Gem asks what she would do without me. I tell her that she would be just fine. But she’s not going to have to do it without me just yet. Not this summer anyway. I’ve decided to stay home. I hope she’s not disappointed.

Gem looks at me and says she could never be disappointed in me. I fling my arms around her neck and hug her with all my might.

The End
